Luna Moth Moon

A Luna Moth on the full moon,
painted because Heather Santos had a visit the other day.
My own reaction the first time I saw one was delight!

They look more like delicate birds than moths,
or friendly creatures from another planet.
As I was drawing this, last sketch of the day
(10 minutes, not including drying time between watercolor coats),
I also saw a Ganesha face! See the elephant?

Summer of Color Full Moon

Full moons continue to be painted by me long after
the moon has moved into gibbous waning moon.
Wild summer colors that remind me of the beach!
She took a turn I had not planned on; a halo developed!

The Waxing Quarter, and She is Painting the Ocean

As the light grew,
She used the Ocean to paint
Her emotional body.

I hadn’t planned it, but this moonth I am painting my cycle.

Here we are at the First Quarter, and I wake in the night with Booby Gurl dancing her way across the pages.

I didn’t name her, by the way.

I had tea with a friend
who dubbed her Booby Girl.
I like Booby Gurl better.
Spelling is important,
like Anne with an “e.”

She comes to me in deep watery colors, talking in poetry, of all things, wrapped in words, Susanissima has had her effect
on me, encouraging me to
speak the words of my heart.

She asked the Moon
if she could paint the Ocean
the blues she saw in her dreams.

Artwork: Making Moons

Moons are on my mind . . . It’s Moonday, Monday!

I sketched a new line of moons and am painting them in watercolors, a departure from my India ink on shellac. Starting with the waxing and waning crescent. Waxing Crescent is sweet; unintentionally she looks like a period piece to me.

In the final sketches, I had a direction.

Building color. I hate being patient.

Her face begins.

The Waning Crescent (below) was a bit over-worked so may redo her, but maybe not. I think Waning Crescent looks like He. We tend not to think about the waxing and waning crescent, and tend to think of THE Crescent Moon at the Waxing Crescent. So many early rituals evolved around seeing that first slim light in the sky.
